Mafia: Definitive Edition PC

Mafia Remake, Mafia 1 Remake

A remake of the cult game of the 2K Czech studio created by the original developers under the label of the Hangar 13 studio. In Mafia: Definitive Edition as Tommy Angelo we progress in the criminal underworld of the fictional city of Lost Heaven.

Mafia: Definitive Edition is a remake of the cult gangster game by Illusion Softworks from 2002. Hangar 13 studio, consisting of the original developers, is responsible for refreshing the game. The game was released as a stand-alone title and part of the Mafia: Trilogy set, which also includes refreshed editions of the next two parts of the series.

Plot

The basic plot assumptions remained unchanged in relation to the original. The game is set in the fictional American city of Lost Heaven in the last years of the interwar period (1930-1938). The main hero is Thomas Angelo, a young taxi driver looking to earn money even in the most suspicious districts. However, his last course led to a fight with an influential family of gangsters. Thomas miraculously manages to reach with his clients to a restaurant belonging to the rival mafia. This is how the story of the protagonist's relationship with the Salieri family begins, which many years later will lead Thomas to police questioning as a crown witness. His memories are revealed in the form of flashbacks during the conversation with the detective.

Although the authors did not change the basic assumptions of the script, there were some modifications. The developers expanded the plot background of the characters and added the cutscenes and dialogues absent in the original.

Mechanics

As with the story, so with the gameplay Mafia: Definitive Edition essentially remains true to the original game. So we have a vast city like the sandboxes of the Grand Theft Auto series, and we observe the world from behind the hero's back (TPP). In the game, in addition to the main missions, you will find a lot of side activities within the city of Lost Heaven. Here we have everything that we could expect: collecting a "protection" fees, trading stolen goods and skirmishes with rival gangs. In the meantime we get to know the story of Thomas Angelo, presented in the form of non-interactive scenes.

The game's flavor is added by the need to comply with the rules, especially road traffic. Not stopping at traffic lights or speeding may provoke the police to give us a ticket. More serious offences such as walking around with guns or acts of violence will result in more interest on the part of law enforcement officers, which may result in arrest or even shooting.

Novelties in the Mafia: Definitive Edition comes down to polishing the game in comparison to the original. However, the developers have also introduced a handful of additional sequences to add variety to the fun.

Technical aspects

Unlike the remasters of the second and third part, Mafia: Definitive Edition was created from scratch on the Illusion Engine. Remake modernizes the locations and characters models, but does not change the overall design of the game. The same applies to the soundtrack - the authors have re-recorded the works known from the original with the support of a professional orchestra.

Other

When you buy a game you get a unique outfit and a car in the other games from the Mafia: Trilogy package.
